Water Colourist

Julie Newitt has an incredible ability to radiate the magic and innocence of small children. Her images capture moments of pure delight with touches of whimsy & charm. Illustrations full of nostalgia that fill parents and grandparents with childhood memories yet are still so totally 21st century.

Julie’s professional career started over 20 years ago as a professional photographic retoucher and traditional black & white hand-colourist, employing the most delicate coverage of oil paints. But with the advent of Photoshop her unique skills had less demand, so she turned her hand to her first love.Julie paints on the finest traditional watercolour paper spending most of the time using the smallest of Windsor & Newton sable brushes (0-000) applying the finest of details.

Much of the inspiration for Julie’s endearing images comes from her own children and their sense of discovery of even the simplest of things. What she tries to convey is a sense of wonder, and what she wants the viewer to re-capture is that memory, that sense of untroubled joy that only comes with the innocence of childhood.
